Homeowners reminded to shovel sidewalk in Halifax

Most of the streets in metro are cleared of snow today however police are reminding people that in the former city of Halifax, sidewalks are the homeowners responsibility.
“A ticket for violating this section is $225.21,” says Cst. Brian Palmeter with Halifax Police.
Residents in Clayton Park, Fairview and Rockingham don’t have to clear their sidewalks, they pay extra in their taxes to get it done. And Dartmouth residents don’t have to either.
Spryfield councillor Steve Adams says his residents do have to shovel, and he thinks it should all be the same.
“Councillor Mosher brought forth a motion that I supported and seconded to have sidewalk snow removal in all of Halifax,” says Adams.
The by-law says you have to have sidewalks cleared within 12 hours of any snowfall or 6 hours after daylight if the stopped during the night.
