Metro Transit set to propose new downtown route

Metro Transit has proposed a new bus route for the downtown core.
Spokesperson Lori Patterson says the number eight will travel Lower Water Street every 30 minutes, stopping at Scotia Square, NSCAD’s waterfront campus, and Pier 21.
Patterson tells Metro News, there’s a lot of development coming to the waterfront, including the new offices for Nova Scotia Power which will open in 2011, and Metro Transit needs to step up.
Paul MacKinnon with the Downtown Business Commission says the new route is a step in the right direction, but he wants a priority placed on implementing a free downtown shuttle.
Plans for the shuttle have been in the works for a while, but it wasn’t mentioned in the five-year plan that transit recently submitted to council.
