The opposition is taking aim at Premier Darrell Dexter’s plans to go to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver next year.
The Liberals are reminding the premier, it wasn’t so long ago his party was critical of former premier Rodney MacDonald’s plans to attend the games – but Dexter says it’s his job to go.
Dexter says it’s important he travel to Vancouver for part of the winter games, courtesy of the Nova Scotia taxpayer to help promote business opportunities in the province.
While in Opposition, NDP MLAs attacked MacDonald’s plans to go – but Dexter is now distancing himself from the criticism.
“I certainly did not criticize him for that, what we’re going for is we’re going for the business of the province,” Dexter said. “I think it’s important that we do that, and this is part of the work that we have to do on behalf of the province.”
Liberal leader Stephen McNeil says it’s another example of the NDP saying one thing in opposition, and another when in power.
“Now that he’s in government he’s got a different set of rules for himself,” McNeil said. “This is what they have done since June 9th.”
McNeil does say he supports the premier going to the games.
