A Halifax man who stockpiled a “staggering” collection of submachine guns and other illegal weapons in his apartment has been sentenced to house arrest.
Alexander Lindsay pleaded guilty to seven charges in June, and was sentenced yesterday.
Police searched his Willett Street apartment in May 2008 and seized dozens of assault rifles, handguns, magazines, bulletproof vests and crossbows.
Prosecutors asked for jail time, but the judge ruled that Lindsay posed no danger to the community, saying he had no ammunition for all the weapons – and there was no evidence he was trying to sell them.
Lindsay has reportedly received counselling since his arrest and completed his grade 12 education.
