Mayor Says Ferry Troubles In Nova Scotia Could Help Saint John

SAINT JOHN, N.B.- As the fight to save “The Cat” ferry service continues in Nova Scotia, the mayor of Saint John will continue to lobby for the continuation of ferry service between Saint John and Digby .
Last week Bay Ferries announced it was discontinuing the high speed ferry service between Yarmouth and Maine, saying it was no longer financially viable.
Mayor Ivan Court says the end of “The Cat” could actually solidify the Princess of Acadia Service between Saint John and Digby. “It could be good news for us at the end of the day because this service is a proven service and it’s important to the southwest and southeast”, Court says
Curt says there was earlier talk the Digby ferry service would be eliminated in favour of a new ship for the Yarmouth to Maine run.
Last year two years in government funding was solidified ensuring the service will continue until at least 2011.
