Halifax airport running smoothly despite new security restrictions

Things went smoothly at Halifax International Tuesday despite concerns about security and new restrictions on carry-on baggage.
“People seem to be getting the word to come early and to reduce and actually carry no carry-on baggage,” said Ashley Barnes with Halifax airport.
All U.S-bound passengers are not allowed carry-on baggage, with a few exceptions for medical devices, small purses, cameras, laptop computers, canes, walkers, diaper bags, musical instruments and bags containing ‘life-sustaining items’.
Barnes said there were minimal lines and the airport’s flights were for the most part, on time.
Laura, who was at the front of the International check-in line says she waited about an hour.
“Actually I wasn’t really expecting the no carry-on thing,” she said.
Although most airlines are waiving the extra bag fee to accommodate travellers who make it to the airport with a carry-on bag.
Lise says she expected the lines to be much worse, however was confused about the carry-on policy.
“You’re not sure what you’re supposed to take,” she said.
“Usually everything doesn’t fit into a small handbag.”
Barnes did suggest checking online to make sure you know what to pack and to double-check on your flight before you head to the airport.
