Part Two of the Battle of Nova Scotia started much the same as Part One did.
The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles came out of the gate fast with two goals and added another on a 5-on-3 powerplay to put the Mooseheads down early Wednesday night at the Metro Centre.
Tuesday night in Sydney, the Screaming Eagles scored three goals in the first three minutes, eventually shutting out the Mooseheads 6-0.
Wednesday the Mooseheads made it a physical affair after getting down early. They came back in the second with goals from Garrett Clarke and Carl Gelinas.
And if it weren’t for a gaffe in front of the net by Steve Gillard which lead to a Cape Breton goal by Logan Shaw, the Mooseheads might have even tied the game.
Before the goals, Cape Breton netminder Olivier Roy had the fifth-longest shutout streak at 155 minutes 18 seconds. Roy already holds the fourth-longest shutout streak of 167 minutes 51 seconds which he set in 2007-08.
Although with just 24 shots Roy was not near as busy as Mooseheads goaltender Mathieu Corbeil who faced 44 shots.
Mooseheads (8-28-1-2) play next on the road, they face the Acadie-Bathurst Titans (14-20-3-2) Saturday. You can listen to the game live on News 95.7 with pre-game getting underway at 6:55 pm.
