Man facing arson charges after attack on auto shop

A 49-year-old man is facing charges of arson today after allegedly trying to use his flaming van to burn down a business.

Police responded to reports of explosions near Lyle Street Auto in Dartmouth around 10:15 Monday night. When they arrived, they found the burning van and a man trying to flee the scene.

Staff Sgt. Sean Auld tells News 95.7 the suspect apparently had some kind of dispute with the business.

“It’s our belief at this time that he was attempting to damage other property in the area,” he said. “There was a trailer on scene and it sustained damage from the fire of the van.”

The man was treated in hospital for minor burns and then released to police custody.
