Weekend storm comes with hefty price tag

The weekend weather storm cost HRM a pretty penny in snow removal.

Metro reports the city spent about $800,000 in snow clearing and salt spreading from Friday to Saturday.

HRM spokesperson Shaune MacKinlay says every piece of equipment was in use and the ice required a high level of salting.

The total snow removal budget for this year is $16.3 million and MacKinlay says the fund isn’t under any strain as winter hasn’t hit us too hard – yet.

However, January and February are typically the coldest and stormiest months of the year.
