Former Tory labour minister Mark Parent says it’s pretty obvious politics are playing a part in the NDPs decisions.
He says the NDP said no to cash for the Yarmouth ferry where the the Tories have an MLA, and yet said yes to Shelburne Shipbuilding where the NDP does have an MLA.
Speaking on News 95.7’s Maritime Morning with Andrew Krystal, Parent admitted outright the Tories did the same kind of thing.
“And we can’t do that any longer,” he says.
Parent gave an example of where he thinks they goofed.
“The air link down to Yarmouth was not a good investment, we already knew the ferry link was more important.”
Parent says he argued against putting MRI’s in Truro, New Glasgow and Antigonish because of the expense, but because the Tories wanted the seats they spent the money.
He says the NDP with a majority government needs to do what makes sense, not political sense.
