Kostin’s murder not the only charge

The man charged with first degree murder in the death of a Dartmouth taxi driver is also awaiting the start of his robbery trial.
Chaze Lamar Thompson, 20, has been in remanded in custody at the Burnside Correctional Facility since his arrest Feb. 6, 2009. He was one of two men and one youth arrested and charged following the armed robbery of the Aladdin Video store on Portland Street in Dartmouth Feb. 5. The trial is due to start March 1, 2010.
Thompson was in custody when police laid the first degree murder charged for the death of Sergei Kosten. The cabbie went missing after picking up a fare at a Gaston Road convenience store in Dartmouth Jan. 17, 2009. His burned-out cab was found at the end of Downey Road in North Preston three days later. His body was discovered a kilometre away on Upper Governor Road April 1.
Following a two-year investigation, Thompson was also arraigned on three assault charges Friday in connection with a stabbing on Feb. 2, 2008.
“It’s believed a dispute between two males resulted in a victim being stabbed numerous times,” Cst. Brian Palmeter told News 95.7. “The investigation required DNA testing which can be very complex and it also takes a fare bit of time to come back. Those results just came back at the beginning of this year.”
In connection with the stabbing Thompson is charged with assault with a weapon causing bodily harm, possession of a weapon and aggravated assault. He has been remanded in custody on both the assault and murder charges until his next court date February 22.
Thompson also has convictions including possession of stolen property, public mischief, drug possession and two counts of failure to comply.
