Council facing another cat debate

Halifax Regional Council may have to pounce on yet another issue involving cats.
A new report submitted by Police Chief Frank Beazley recommends a trap, neuter and release program to deal with HRM’s 90,000-strong feral cat population.
The report says some animal welfare groups are already doing it, but a government-funded effort could spay or neuter up to 1300 cats every year.
The cost of such a program would be almost $600,000 and Coun. Gloria McCluskey tells Metro News it may be too costly for council.
She also points out such a program wouldn’t cut down on cat nuisance calls – it would really just be for the health of the stray cats,
