Drunken robber foiled by quick-thinking citizen

A Sackville father and son team got the best of a tipsy robber Sunday morning.

Early Sunday a man on his way to the ATM at the Sackville Drive Scotiabank was approached by a drunken man.

“Asked him for a smoke, the victim said he didn’t have a smoke, he put him in a headlock and then let him go, apologized and said he was just fooling around,” says RCMP Cpl. Joe Taplin.

The 24-year-old suspect then hugged the man only to follow him into the bank.

“Grabbed his wallet, kicked him, pushed him,” says Taplin.

The victim managed to escape, and signalled to his son across the street.

“Who came over with their pickup truck and parked the pickup truck at the bank doors,” says Taplin.

Blocking the would-be robber inside the bank. He’s due in court at a later date.
