A Fall River man is crying foul about a recent shipment of firewood and warning others to be on the lookout for online scammers.
Bill Shugarue tells the Chronicle-Herald he paid $800 for four cords of firewood from a supplier he found on Kijiji.
After delivery, Shugarue says he got suspicious about the amount lying on his driveway and contacted Measurement Canada. Officials paid him a visit, measured the stacked wood and confirmed he’d received barely half of what he’d paid for.
Shugarue couldn’t contact the supplier or find any record of the company, so he has no way of getting his money back.
Halifax Regional Police Const. Brian Palmeter says people should check out firewood suppliers with the Better Business Bureau before laying out any money.
