Divorce fair kicks off in Halifax

People seeking information on the tricky business of splitting up might be able to get help at what’s being touted as Canada’s first divorce fair.

Organizers say the two-day event in Halifax will give people information on matters including separation, parenting, coping with stress, and property and pension issues.

Maria Franks of the Legal Information Society of Nova Scotia says the fair can help people understand how many things they have to consider when divorcing.

She says there will be booths representing lawyers, real estate agents, financial services, hair stylists and travel agents.

She says she got the idea after seeing a similar event in Europe, but doesn’t believe there has been one in the United States or Canada.

The fair is starting today at a Halifax hotel, with only men going today and women on Saturday.
