Family escapes house fire

A family managed to escape a house fire on Lower Prospect Road early this morning.
A call came into emergency crews around 7:15 a.m. of a fire at 2151 Lower Prospect Road.
Mike Blackburn of the Halifax Regional Fire Service says the single dwelling had thick smoke coming out from the rear of it when they arrived on scene.
He says it presented some challenges.
“Based on the fact it was in the the attic space,” Blackburn said. “Obviously with days like this anytime you’re faced with cold temperatures it makes fire suppressing a little bit harder.”
Blackburn says they had it out in under an hour, but damage is significant.
The cause has yet to be determined.
