Night time construction keeps some residents awake

Construction on the Fairview overpass switched over to night work this week and for the next two weeks crews will be working overnight to avoid interruptions to daytime CN rail service.
“What they’re doing is they’re driving sheet piles down on the west abuttment, and that will help lay the groundwork for reconstructing the west side of the Fairview overpass,” says Patricia Vrege with the transportation department.
Traffic is also down to one lane in each direction because of the work this week.
A few residents have complained about the work disrupting their sleep, though city councillor Russell Walker says he hasn’t heard a single complaint. He says residents were given lots of notice about the work.
“We’ve gone way beyond our notification limits to let them know that this is happening and they’re going to work nights for two weeks,” says Walker.
Walker says work’s still on schedule to wrap up the end of March or early April.
