Woman dies after collision with train

A 60-year-old woman is dead after colliding with a VIA Rail train Wednesday.

The accident occurred at Watson Lane off of Windsor Junction Road, at a private rail crossing which has no warning system.

Paul Maynard with Emergency Health Services says they were called to the scene just after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

He says they took 60-year-old Julie Vials of Windsor Junction to the QEII hospital in Halifax with critical injuries. She died in hospital of her injuries. Reports are that Vials lived adjacent to Watson Lane where the accident occurred.

Vials was the only person in the light blue Hyundai Accent, which was flipped on it’s roof and crushed by the impact.

The train, bound for Montreal, had 46 passengers on board.
