A new report on keeping students in class, suggests fining parents of kids who are chronically absent.
Thirteen recommendations were tabled to the province Wednesday, one in which parents could find themselves charged under child protection laws.
One parent at a West End Halifax school likes the idea for younger children like her own.
“Certainly for the younger age children up to a certain age, up to or the middle of junior high,” says Suzanna.
However Alisha thinks it should be enforced no matter how old the children are, adding it’s the parent’s job to make sure their children get an education.
“It should be enforced that they be in school,” says Alisha.
Another recommendation looks to force kids to stay in school until age 18, two years longer than now.
