Barrington Street is about to get a shiny new skyscraper.
A major facelift is planned for the TD Bank Centre across the street from the Parade Square.
The plans look to double the size of the centre to more than 18-thousand square feet.
Andy Fillmore with HRM by Design says the plan incorporates both the environment and heritage.
“It will reinvigorate a heritage building on the site and it’s actually going to rebuild a heritage building that was demolished a year or so ago,” said Fillmore. “So it’s bringing some old heritage back or at least a replica of it.”
However, Philip Pacey with the Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia says he wants to see more than the facades of those buildings preserved.
Some of the changes and improvements being considered are replacing the current mirrored glass exterior with a clear blue one, a green roof and solar heating.
Work is expected to start this year pending approval from HRM by Design.
