Two Mooseheads stars selected in NHL entry draft

Oleg Kulebiakin will return to the Halifax Mooseheads next season feeling good about his days ahead.

The 18-year-old rookie was one of a pair of Mooseheads players who found themselves selected by NHL teams in this past weekend’s NHL entry draft.

On Saturday, the Russian skater was chosen by Tampa Bay in the second round, going 52nd overall.

Last season, the forward led the Mooseheads in scoring with 73 points in 64 games during the regular season, catching the eyes of Lightning management.

He wasn’t alone in the draft either with Mooseheads teammate Shawn Carrier going in the 7th round to the Colorado Avalanche.

The selections come as the Mooseheads are set make the 2nd overall selection in this year’s CHL Import Draft on Tuesday morning, after trading up from the 20th overall pick.

The Mooseheads have two open import roster spots where they can sign international talent for the upcoming season.

The Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League holds the first overall pick.
