Former cabinet minister admits to espresso machine purchase

Former Community Services minister Judy Streatch has claimed responsibility for the purchase of a $738 espresso machine.
The coffeemaker was one of the questionable items pointed out this week by Auditor General Jacques Lapointe in his review of MLA’s expenses.
Streatch says she got an e-mail last evening from Tory leader Karen Casey informing her of the Auditor General’s finding. She says she was asked by Casey to come forward.
Streatch says if asked, she’ll refund the money.
“I contacted the Speaker’s Office this morning, and am awaiting instruction and information from the Speaker’s Office as to what further action shall be taken,” Streatch told News95.7. “If requested to do so…I’m prepared to re-imburse, or return the item.”
Streatch says the espresso machine is now in storage with the rest of her former constituency office furniture.
Also Friday, Yarmouth MLA Richard Hurlburt apologized and confirmed he has re-paid the entire $7,995 cost of a generator hardwired into his home that he says was for the community.
