Coyotes spotted near Bedford elementary school

Bedford residents are being advised to be wary of coyotes in the community.
Several coyotes have been spotted in the Eaglewood subdivision hanging around an elementary school.
There have been no run-ins between humans and these Bedford coyotes, but they’ve been seen in the area of the Eaglewood Elementary.
Several of the animals have been seen hanging around the school at dusk.
Bedford Liberal MLA Kelly Regan says she doesn’t want to alarm people, but felt residents should know about it.
“There’s a walking path alongside the school which people use to run,” she said “The school community has done a good job of sending this notice home and alerting parents, but what if you have a pre-schooler and you don’t have a child attending Eaglewood Elementary?”
Mike Larade traps wild animals for a living. He says it’s not uncommon for coyotes to live in urban areas.
“It’s not uncommon at all,” he said. “The area has a good deer population that lives right on the base at Magazine Hill.”
Larade advises people to holler and make yourself appear as big as you can if they have a close encounter with a coyote.
