Shocking military commander arrest has police looking for Halifax connection

The arrest of a military base commander in Ontario will have police taking a look at some cold case files in Metro.
Ontario Provincial Police say they will looking at unsolved cases in areas where Colonel Russell Williams served, after laying several charges against the commander of CFB Trenton in Ontario.
Col. Williams, 46, is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of a 27-year-old woman from Belleville, Ontario and a 38-year-old corporal from the base. He is also charged with sexual assault and forcible confinement in attacks on two other women in the region during home invasions last September.
“We are certainly tracking the movements of where this man has been over the passed several of years and we’re continuing on with our investigation,” said Detective-Inspector Chris Nicholas.
The Chronicle Herald reports that Williams was based at 12 Wing Shearwater between 1992 and 1994. The paper notes three unsolved murder investigations during that time.
Williams has been relieved of his duties and appeared in Belleville court yesterday. He is remanded in custody.
An autopsy is to be performed on the body of Jessica Lloyd which was found early yesterday about 30 minutes north of Trenton, 11 days after she disappeared. Marie France Comeau, who had been in the military for 12 years, was found dead in her area home on November 25th.
