MLA spending has local musician singing the blues

A local musician says it’s the perfect material.
Dartmouth’s Rick Gautreau says he just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to write a little tune about the MLA expense scandal that’s got Nova Scotians in an uproar.
During a performance downtown the other night, an audience member asked Gautreau why he hadn’t written a song about the scandal. He says he went right to work.
“I just kind of went to work on it and I said, ‘Well, it’s obviously a blues song,'” he said.
He says as he went through the material available outlining expenses like generators, big screen TV’s, computers, printers, art work, and on and on, he couldn’t believe the amount of money these politicians were claiming as expenses.
“MLAs get very good treatment because of their position, the responsibilities they have, and all of that,” he said. “But the details of this were beyond common sense.”
He adds he realizes MLAs need expenses, but says this was extreme.
