No ‘damage control’ meeting occured: NDP

Nova Scotia’s political parties are at odds over whether a damage control meeting happened prior to the release of the Auditor General’s report.
Reports are that Tory leader Karen Casey has suggested the three party leaders met prior to the release of the Auditor General’s report on MLA expenses to figure out ways to control the fallout.
But the NDP government denied that claim Thursday.
The Premier’s chief of staff Dan O’Connor says there were discussions, not on managing or controlling the release of information, but on how to fix the system.
“[They were] trying to make sure that all three parties would work to replace a system that clearly did not work with one that does,” said O’Connor. “Trying to ensure that the parties kept each other informed about what they were doing, because it was the view of, I believe, all three leaders that this was not a topic where people should be seeking partisan advantage.”
O’Connor couldn’t explain the reported comments from Casey.
