Dog trainer steps in with bid to save Brindi

As a provincial court judge debates whether Brindi the dog should be returned to her owner or destroyed – a veteran dog trainer is offering a third option.
Brindi’s owner, Francesca Rogier, has been found guilty of violating the city’s animal control bylaw.
She wants her dog returned to her, but in light of the conviction, HRM is seeking a euthanasia order, saying Brindi represents a threat to public safety.
Bob Ottenbrite, who owns the Lietash Canine Academy in East Hants and has worked with Brindi, says the courts aren’t limited to killing Brindi or giving her back to Rogier.
“I want to bring before the court a third option,” he said. “I would gladly take Brindi to my place and become Brindi’s caregiver for the remainder of her life.”
But Rogier says she deserves to have her dog back and won’t agree to the offer on principle.
“That would be completely acquiescing to an unfair process, an abusive process that is over the top,” she said. “I can’t agree to that.”
Rogier has been fighting for Brindi’s life ever since she attacked a dog that was out for a walk in July of 2008. Brindi was under a muzzle order at the time because of prior attacks.
