Tory MLA not expecting Yarmouth by-election any time soon

The riding of Yarmouth is without provincial representation and there’s no sign of a by-election in sight.
Since former minister Richard Hurlburt stepped down – amid a scandal – Yarmouth County has been without a member of the legislature and Premier Darrell Dexter says it will stay that way for the time being.
“We are going to get to it as soon as we think it’s effective and expeditious to do,” he said. “We don’t want to put people on the roads. I went through a February election back in 1998 and they are very difficult, and they’re even more difficult in rural ridings.”
Tory MLA Chris d’Entremont says the NDP will have to make positive changes for the rural community before calling a by-election as it’s just killed the town’s catamaran ferry service.
“I don’t expect him to call one anytime soon,” he said. “The NDP would be annihilated in Yarmouth County.”
Without representation d’Entremont says he’s happy to be Yarmouth County’s voice in the legislature.
