Downtown fight sends man to hospital

A man is in hospital after a fight in the city’s downtown overnight.

Staff Sgt. Barb Saunders says a 25-year old man suffered a serious head injury in the fight at 2:40 a.m. at the corner of Market street and Blowers street.

The victim was taken to the QE2, Saunders says the injury is serious in nature, but doesn’t know if it is life threatening.

Saunders tells us police were on scene for a few hours following the incident.

“The Forensic Identification Unit is conducting its investigation at the scene,” Saunders said. “Witnesses are being located as well.”

A man in his early 20’s is in police custody.

Police are trying to determine what caused the fight.
