Payment letters heading out to MLAs

Letters asking for repayment are going out soon to some of the MLAs red-flagged by the auditor general for inappropriate or excessive expense claims.
The legislature’s Internal Economy Board will ask any politician who has yet to repay the money to do so by April 3 or explain why they shouldn’t have to.
Former Tory Ron Chisholm was named for spending $750 on a GPS unit. He has no plans to reimburse the province.
“I don’t feel that I should pay it back,” says Chisholm. “I feel that it was an allowable expense,”
“Before I bought it, I made a special call to the Speaker’s office to make sure that it was an allowable expense and I was told definitely that it was.”
But Chisholm says if they want the unit back, he’ll give it back.
Liberal MLA Keith Colwell was named for spending $2,600 on a projector and $1,700 for a video camera. He says if they want the money repaid, so be it.
“Whatever the speaker wants me to do, then I’ll do,” says Colwell. “No question.”
Former Progressive Conservative Bill Dooks says he’ll wait for the letter before deciding whether to pay back the $6,200 he spent on his website.
