There wasn’t too much to get one local member of parliament excited in Wednesday’s throne speech – but there was a concern.
Megan Leslie, the NDP MP for Halifax, SAYS at 23 pages the throne speech was long – but short on specific strategies to decrease the debt or create jobs.
But in the midst of the rhetoric, she says there’s one concrete problem for Nova Scotians.
“To ensure that unnecessary regulation does not inhibit the growth of Canada’s uranium mining industry by unduly restricting foreign investment,” she said, reading directly from the speech. “I think that’s of of concerns to Nova Scotians because we have a moratorium on uranium mining.”
Leslie says she’s also unhappy with the recurring theme of encouraging foreign investment.
“We need Canadian investment, ” “We have incredible thinkers in here. We need investment in research and development so that Canadians can come up with the ideas ot make the Canadian economy stronger.”
Leslie does says her party is pleased government may be supporting the UN declaration on the rights of indigenous people.
