Residents want community councils empowered

Haligonians are calling for more community councils with more power.

It was the theme during last night’s public boundary review meeting at city hall.

Former citizen committee member Beverly Miller says good decisions about community councils need to be made before the size of regional council is increased or decreased.

“If we had more efficient community councils with more power we could perhaps cut back on the number of councillors and be more efficient,” said Miller.

Mayor Peter Kelly says so far they’ve had about 300 people attend meetings.

Some are asking for the status quo, while others are asking for more or fewer council members.
