The new owners of Fenwick Tower in the South End have some ideas for making Halifax’s tallest building not stick out like a sore thumb.
The plans call for two new buildings to flank a prettied-up, expanded Fenwick Tower, as well as the addition of ground-level shops.
If the plan is passed, Fenwick will have several thousand square feet of commercial space, 256 new apartments and six townhouses.
But not everyone is in favour of the changes.
“We’re getting too much congestion here,” says Blanche. “If they keep with apartment buildings it’s going to turn into Highfield Park, Clayton Park, all the these places that get so congested.”
She says she doesn’t like how Fenwick looks now, but likes this plan even less.
However, South End Councillor Sue Uteck says she’s a fan.
“I like what I see so far,” says Uteck. “I mean anything in that environment would be an improvement.”
Council will decide whether to start the process to approve the development Tuesday.
