Cabaret facing discipline over ‘unprecedented’ violations

A downtown bar may have to stop serving alcohol a little earlier, depending on the outcome of a disciplinary hearing underway this week.
The Toothy Moose reportedly ran up eight overcrowding and liquor infractions in an eight-month period.
It’s allowed just 198 people inside – but one compliance officer told the Utility and Review Board she dropped into the bar on January 10 and counted at least 250 people inside.
A regional manager with the province’s alcohol and gaming division says the number of infractions is “unprecedented,” and something has to be done immediately.
The CBC reports provincial officials want the UARB to suspend the bar’s cabaret license for a year, which would force it to close at 2 a.m. rather than 3:30 a.m.
Bar owners say that could affect their profits.
The Toothy Moose is owned by the same consortium that owns Bubbles’ Mansion.
