Tire recycling plant battle may not be over

The County of Guysborough is threatening legal action now to stop a tire recycling plant from locating in HRM.
The province has now cleared the way for C&D Recycling to set up the plant in Goodwood off the Prospect Road that will shred or store up to 1 million old tires a year.
Lloyd Hines, the warden of Guysborough County, says their bid was substaintally cheaper than the Goodwood one.
“In a province as broke as Nova Scotia,” says Lloyd Hines, “how can you kiss off $650,000 a year for a guaranteed five years with the option for another five years?”
Hines says he doesn’t understand why it’s going to Goodwood when the people there don’t want it.
Goodwood residents like Dan McEvoy are worried the plant poses a fire hazard and threatens a nearby bog. He thinks the plant can still be stopped.
“I think C&D recycling would be wise to wait a little while longer because all the chips haven’t fallen yet,” says McEvoy.
He says they’re appealing to the premier to step in and stop the plant from locating in Goodwood.
The province had earlier turned down requests for an environmental assessment of the tire recycling plant. Now it says a review of the bidding process found it to be fair.
