Hangover help for St. Patty’s revellers

A mid-week St. Patrick’s day poses the dilemma for anyone indulging in some celebrations of how to be fit for work the next day.

Pubs and bars across Halifax will serve green beer to crowds of patrons wearing funny hats today, and anyone who loses count of the pints will face a wicked hangover in the morning.

Fortunately, with several post-secondary institutions in town, there are plenty of experts around with some tried and tested cures to offer.

Many students at Dal agree greasy food the morning after a drinking binge is key to nursing yourself back into shape.

“Bacon and eggs, but the eggs have to be cooked in the bacon grease,” said one young woman. “Greasy food the next morning, places like McDonald’s they really settle the stomach down,” said another student.

Jeff and Matt recommend drinking something other than water before bed.

“Gatorade, yeah two bottles before bed,” said Jeff. “I’m not very sure if it helps that much really, but it seems to work,” agreed Matt.

Medical experts agree that sports drinks are helpful because they include electrolytes, potassium and minerals which may be depleted by dehydration.
