Provincial Crowns file formal safety complaint

Provincial crown attorneys have filed a formal complaint about safety issues at the courthouses in Halifax and Dartmouth.
Rick Woodburn, president of the Crown Attorneys’ Association, says it’s a last resort after years of asking government for a safe work environment at courthouses.
The complaint under the Occupational Health and Safety Act comes after a brawl erupted among at least 30 people at the Dartmouth courthouse earlier this month.
There are no metal detectors in the building, and the Crowns say it was just good luck that no weapons were involved.
Woodburn tells the Herald the lawyers can refuse to work if their workplace isn’t safe – and he says it could happen if changes aren’t made soon.
