NDP MLA suspended hours before throne speech

The NDP has announced the suspension of a backbencher MLA, hours before opening the spring session of the legislature.

A release says North Dartmouth MLA Trevor Zinck has been suspended from caucus due to issues with constituency expenses.

In a statement provided prior to a news conference this morning, the caucus states that concerns were brought to the caucus and auditor general following the latest election.

Zinck was asked for an explanation and following that, the statement reads, he was suspended because the caucus “does not feel it has the necessary trust in his conduct.”

Zinck made headlines last October when he vouched fora convicted child abuser’s community service hours.
