Fairview overpass project won’t finish on time

The Fairview overpass project is going to take a little longer to finish.

The $5 million project started later than planned and it will finish later than planned. It was supposed to be complete by the end of March, which is Thursday.

“The project will be near complete in early to mid-April,” says Patricia Jreige with the Department of Transportation.

There’s a $10,000 per day late penalty in the contract with Dexter Construction, but Jreige says the penalty, if any, will be determined later.

“After the project is complete and it’s all said and done we’ll be able to better determine what that will be,” says Jreige.

Crews still have to pour concrete and replace guard rails on the structure. Jreige says with a project this big, it’s not unusual to be a little behind schedule.
