Cats and dogs who are waiting for permanent homes will soon have a new place to wait for their owners.
Homeward Bound City Pound, run by Hope Swinimer, takes over the HRM contract for housing animals from the SPCA.
“The tender required that we have room for 15 dogs and five cats,” says Swinimer. “We have exceeded that. We have up to space for 21 dogs and probably ten cats.”
One of the residents of this pound will be Brindi, the dog seized from her owner and now the centre of a court case.
Swinimer says she’ll be treated as well as the other dogs, but her staff can handle any temperament.
“Our staff are so familiar with behavioural issues and how to handle any type of temperament of animal,” says Swinimer.
The Homeward Bound City Pound, located on Brownlow Avenue in Burnside, officially opens April 1.
