Blind woman’s death an accident: Police

Regional police have identified the young woman who died near her North End Halifax home on the weekend.
Holly Elizabeth Bartlett, 31, died after what appears to be an accidental fall at the foot of the MacKay Bridge.
Bartlett’s friend Shelly Adams can’t believe it.
“You never expect to hear somebody close to you has passed away,” says Adams. “I was just in shock. I still am. It just doesn’t feel real to me.”
Police believe Bartlett, who was blind, was dropped off in the area by a cab just after midnight and was not at anytime on the bridge.
“And we’re investigating the possibility that she may have become disoriented within her surroundings and fallen off a path which resulted in her injuries,” says Cst. Brian Palmeter with Halifax police.
He says Bartlett was found alive about 7 a.m. Saturday but died later in hospital. Police don’t believe foul play was involved.
Robert Ganong with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind says Bartlett never let her handicap stop her. He says she was a born leader involved in many things and he says she will be sorely missed.
