Mayor meets with city’s top cops over shootings

The city’s recent gunplay has prompted a meeting involving the mayor and the heads of the city’s two police forces.
Mayor Peter Kelly sat down with Halifax Regional Police Chief Frank Beazley and the city’s top Mountie Supt. Darrell Beaton Tuesday.
Kelly says everyone is concerned about the growing use of guns in the city. The police chief has said he expects there will be more violence, which leaves the mayor worrying someone will be hurt or killed.
“That is a real point of contention and point of concern and we would not want to end up going in that direction,” says Kelly.
There have been six shooting incidents around HRM in the last two weeks. Fortunately no innocent bystanders have been hurt.
Kelly says a big problem facing police is a lack of public co-operation.
“For anybody with information I’d ask them to step forward and help resolve these situations,” says Kelly.
The mayor says he’s confident police are doing everything they can to deal with the gunplay.
