New security law will increase job opportunities: minister

The justice minister says the security industry in Nova Scotia will generate more positions once a new law requiring standardized training takes effect.
Under the proposed bill, security staff – from bouncers to bank guards – will receive mandatory training and be licensed.
Minister Ross Landry says the licences will be portable from job to job, creating a ready-to-go workforce.
“There are about 3,800 licensed security personnel in Nova Scotia now,” he said.
“We expect that will grow significantly once the additional security sectors are regulated.”
Licensing will also stipulate who can carry weapons.
Although Mike Brownlow with the Corporation of Corps of Commissionaires says his staff won’t be carrying guns.
“Not with the Corps of Commissionaires,” he said. “It’s our mandate not to carry weapons. So, no we won’t be doing that.”
The bill brings Nova Scotia in line with regulations in five other provinces.
