Tire recycling battle rolls into court

Guysborough is going to court to get a tire recycling plant that’s been earmarked for HRM.
The Resource Recovery Board recently awarded R&D Recycling the five-year contract to recycle up to 1 million tires a year. The company plans to locate the recycling plant in Goodwood.
The Municipality of Guysborough claims the process was flawed. Warden Lloyd Hines says the plant should have gone to them.
“We had a better bid,” says Hines. “We know we had the lowest bid, cheaper by millions of dollars actually. We’ve got the best location and we’ve got community acceptance.”
Residents in the Goodwood area have voiced their opposition to the plant. Hines says they’re now asking Nova Scotia’s Supreme Court to overturn the decision.
