King’s Wharf development stalled by rail line

A major development in Dartmouth has hit a major snag.

The $300 million residential-commercial project at King’s Whart was supposed to be under construction by now, but the developer is still waiting for permission from CN to cross a rail line on the street to the building site.

Without that approval, the city won’t issue a building permit, saying access to the land is a dealbreaker.

Developer Francis Fares tells CBC he’s frustrated by yet another delay after five years of waiting – but he expects to have an answer from CN within days.

CN says it’s given conceptual approval to the project, but is still evaluating more detailed plans.

Fares hopes to break ground no later than May.
