Liberals push for gambling report to go public

Nova Scotia Liberals say the government is addicted to the revenue from gambling in the province.
A 2007 report commissioned by the previous government has been killed by the NDP due to ‘flawed methodology’.
However Liberal finance critic Leo Glavine says the study should be released letting those in education and addiction services make their own evaluations.
“One excuse to not reveal to Nova Scotians some very disturbing elements,” says Glavine. “Maybe for one of the first times we’ll actually find out the number of suicides related to gambling.”
He says the report could result in tougher regulations in casinos and VLT establishments, which could hurt the province’s gambling revenue.
Labour Minister Marilyn More says that is not why the report is being held back.
“I read the draft report and it was confusing, it didn’t make sense,” she said. “So I didn’t feel it was reliable enough to put out.”
More says it doesn’t make sense to create anxiety around information which isn’t accurate.
