G8 meetings kick off in Halifax

Development ministers from the world’s eight wealthiest nations have officially begun their talks at Pier 21.
Canada’s Development Minister Bev Oda welcomed the other G8 delegates to Canada Tuesday and laid out some of the items on the agenda.
“To meet the challenge of food security and to do so effectively, sustainably and accountably,” says Oda.
Health for mothers and children in developing nations is also on the list. However Canada will not support abortion.
Canada’s decision spurred Kayley Kennedy and other feminists to stage a protest at Grand Parade.
“To draw attention to the fact that millions of women risk their lives every year to obtain illegal unsafe abortion,” says Kennedy.
The G8 talks wrap up in Wednesday.
