Mother’s Day different for different moms

Sunday may be just another Mother’s Day for some. For others it marks a milestone in their lives.
Laura Simpson has been a mom for about 18 months. She says her son Charlie is oblivious to the concept of a fixed date for celebrating his mother’s dedication to him, but she’s excited.
“It’s nice to be honoured for a new role in my life.”
This weekend, she says her husband will be the one making her feel special. But Simpson’s mind is with her own parentage.
“It mostly makes me think about my own mother and my grandmother. It all hits home what they went through for you,” She tells News 95.7. “The tantrums that are starting, the pinching when excited and kicking in the groin when getting diaper changed; you start appreciating your own mother a lot more when you go through it yourself.”
While Simpson is just starting her motherhood journey, Mary Raymond has three daughters, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She says celebrating the day is better now than it was in the beginning.
“I was usually the one who cooked the big mean when they all came in for a meal. Some days it was very tiring. But otherwise I enjoyed it. They’d give me flowers,” said Raymond.
She says now she can enjoy the company of her grandchildren and then send them home with their parents at the end of the day, and she has more time to herself now than when she was running after her own little ones.
