No one injured in two separate blazes

A busy night for Halifax firefighters who had to deal with two fires that caused some serious damage.
One forced a couple dozen residents out of their homes.
The second of the fires happened around 3 a.m. today. Flames charred the inside of an auto shop on Bedford Lane in Dartmouth.
“They knocked the fire down and right now we’re just cleaning up and it’ll be turned over to our investigators,” said Halifax Fire acting platoon chief Brad Connors.
Connors says no one was inside the business and no one was hurt, but the building’s interior suffered some pretty extensive damage.
That was not the case at another fire in an apartment building on Evans Avenue. Connors says crews responded just after 8 p.m. Monday to find smoke filling a third-floor hallway.
“A few people were hanging out of the windows,” said Connors. “The guys went in and did a great job to rescue one person from the exterior. They also made entry into the structure and rescued two more people from units on the third floor where the fire originated.”
One person was treated for smoke inhalation.
Because of the damage, residents on the top two floors were forced to spend the night elsewhere.
Investigators will now comb both fire scenes looking for a cause.
