Battle for Brindi cost more than $60 k

The two-year-long court battle over Brindi the dog cost more than $60,000.

Taxpayers are on the hook for about $13,500 in legal costs incurred by the city.

The Herald reports most of the final bill – $30,000 was spent by the dog’s owner, Francesca Rogier.

The Nova Scotia SPCA also rang up $18,000 related to Brindi’s care and medical needs over 20 months.

The $13,500 taxpayers are covering is for  legal work the municipality contracted out.

Mayor Peter Kelly says they  occasionally go outside the city’s own legal department for specific expertise or if it’s known that a file would take up a lot of staff time.
